Greetings! Today is Tuesday and on Tuesday we send a jobs-specific edition of Future Community. A couple introductory notes:
1/ Curious what you think about this call for more friction in the job search process: It Should Be Harder to Apply for a Job. No, Really by Kate Taylor for WIRED. I think that what you get out of the job search reflects what you put into it. A low bar super easy application processes don't get you much. If you can't tell that a job is real it probably isn't. Unfortunately, the current market means that even a high friction process for a seemingly perfect applicant is almost impossible to navigate.
2/ Burnout, exhaustion, lousy compensation, and simple bad management are realities that push people out of advocacy, organizing, and nonprofit work. Any or all of these may be tied to why folks are looking for a new job. Or at these jobs specifically. If that resonates you might like this conversation Convergence hosted with immigration organizer Tania Wolf about keeping people in the movement.
Here's a pitch to support Future Community Jobs and keep the community-centered jobs hub open to all. There's a human putting real time and effort into this because you can't just AI your way to a useful job list that isn't full of LinkedIn slop.
- There is a $4 monthly membership for job seekers and their supporters.
- Support Future Community with the Bright+3 tip jar.
If you're hiring for a role like one of these you could post on LinkedIn and get 1,200 resumes by tomorrow. Go for it. You could ALSO (or instead!) get your job in front of a community of real nonprofit professionals like those here. This is how you do it.
